Augustin Wiedemann „324“

“324” is the title of the second album by Augustin Wiedermann on the Wildner Records label. 324 is the difference in years between the birthdays of two composers, on whom the production is primarily focused. At first glance, Ralph Towner (born 1940) and Johann Jakob Froberger (1616-1667) seem to have little in common.

4However, one fundamental commonality is that both Froberger and Towner exclusively created instrumental works that are very well suited for guitar performances. This is no surprise in the case of Towner, who is one of the most important contemporary guitarists. However, Froberger's toccatas, capriccios, fantasies, suites, and suite sets etc. were written for organs, cembalos, and clavichords. It is the merit of Stefano Grondonna, the Italian guitarist and good friend of Augustin Wiedemann, that Froberger’s music is now available in outstanding arrangements for guitar.
